Digitization of the system of justice now and in future

In this panel session we will be looking at new technologies currently being used by the courts, e.g. e-trials, electronic archiving and delivery of court documents, videoconferences in criminal cases – and those which are still being introduced to the justice system or might be implemented in the future, e.g. carrying out tasks via automated processes or processes based on AI, conducting asynchronous trials or using algorithms in preparatory proceedings.

Between an opportunity and a threat – new technologies in justice in light of international human rights standards

In this panel we will discuss how new technologies fit in the context of international human rights' standards. We will look at standards that should be considered when implementing new solutions. The panellists will also discuss opportunities and potential threats the introduction of new technologies in justice poses when considering various social and systemic conditions (e.g. the problem of digital exclusion).
