Mr. Freeman is an experienced international arbitrator based in Japan, having the unique qualifications as both a Japanese bengoshi and a New York lawyer. Mr. Freeman has conducted numerous ICC and JCAA arbitrations in both English and Japanese as Presiding Arbitrator, Sole Arbitrator, Co-Arbitrator and Emergency Arbitrator. He has arbitrated numerous commercial disputes, and several significant construction disputes, including one of the largest arbitrations under the JCAA rules. Mr. Freeman studied law at the Tokyo University, Faculty of Law (LL.B.) and Columbia Law School (J.D.), where he was Editor of the Columbia Law Review. After working for Sullivan and Cromwell LLP in New York and Tokyo, he started his independent practice in Tokyo in 2007. He is also a Member of the JCAA Procedural Advisory Committee and teaches International Commercial Arbitration as a Professor at Keio University Law School.
